The Numbers
Nvidia reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results (quarter ended July 26, 2026) after the close on August 26. Revenue was $96.2 billion, up 18% from the previous quarter and up 106% from a year ago. Data Center revenue — the line that best proxies hyperscaler AI capex flowing through to Nvidia — hit a record $89.0 billion, up 18% quarter-over-quarter and up 117% year-over-year. GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins both came in at 75.0%. GAAP diluted EPS was $2.46; non-GAAP EPS was $2.22.
CEO Jensen Huang’s framing: “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue… The AI infrastructure buildout is at full steam.”

*Data Center revenue for Q2 FY26 and Q1 FY27 derived from the reported 117%/18% growth rates on the $89.0B Q2 FY27 figure; see Nvidia’s official filings for exact prior-period restatements.
The Q3 FY2027 guide of $108.0 billion (±2%) is the first time Nvidia has ever guided a single quarter above $100 billion — and notably, the company said it is assuming zero Data Center compute revenue from China in that number, meaning the guide is entirely ex-China and could move further if Beijing licensing changes.
Amazon Triples Its GPU Order Hours After the Print
Separately from the earnings release, Nvidia and AWS announced an expanded partnership: AWS will deploy 2 million additional Nvidia GPUs across 2027-2028, including 100,000 earmarked for U.S. government AI workloads. Multiple outlets (TechCrunch, Bloomberg, Wccftech) reported this triples an AWS GPU commitment that started at 1 million units just months ago — one of the clearest single data points yet that hyperscaler demand for Nvidia silicon is still accelerating, not plateauing.
Nvidia also reaffirmed the $500 billion+ third-party financing platform with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR first announced August 10 (covered on this blog), and said its Vera Rubin platform is now ramping into full production at CoreWeave, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Nebius.
Why This Cuts Against the Circularity Worry This Blog Flagged on Aug. 15
Our August 15 post flagged that Nvidia had cut its planned OpenAI Ohio financing guarantee by more than half — the first concrete instance we’d tracked of Nvidia pulling back on deal-specific credit risk, after a summer of nothing but upward capex revisions elsewhere. That post asked whether it was an isolated recalibration or the start of a broader tightening.
This report is a partial answer, and it points the other way: Nvidia’s actual chip-selling business — the part not exposed to any single counterparty’s balance sheet — just posted its strongest quarter on record, with a guide that implies no deceleration into Q3, plus a tripled multi-year hardware commitment from the single largest cloud provider. The two data points aren’t contradictory — a company can simultaneously get more selective about which specific deals it personally guarantees credit for, while the underlying demand for its product keeps outrunning even its own upwardly-revised forecasts (Huang’s GTC framework called for $1 trillion in order flow through 2027; this quarter’s pace is consistent with that track, not behind it). But it does mean the OpenAI Ohio guarantee cut looks more like risk-pricing discipline on one deal than a signal of softening end demand.
Market Reaction
Nvidia closed the regular session on August 26 (pre-earnings) at $209.66. In after-hours trading following the release, shares climbed to roughly $219.50 — up about 4.7% — before settling into a narrower range as investors digested the China-related guidance caveat alongside the headline beat.
Investment Read
This is about as clean a “capex is still accelerating” data point as the AI trade has produced this cycle: record Data Center revenue, a guide that crosses $100B for the first time, and a hyperscaler tripling its multi-year hardware order within the same news cycle. It doesn’t resolve every open question this blog has tracked — the ex-China assumption in guidance is itself a real, unresolved variable, and Nvidia’s own vendor-financing retreat on the OpenAI Ohio deal (Aug. 15) shows that risk discipline is rising somewhere in the stack even as headline demand isn’t. Read this report as evidence that the buildout’s demand side remains intact through at least Q3; whether the financing side keeps up on the same terms is the separate question this blog will keep watching.
